MOZART - Piano Concerto No. 19, K. 459

BRUCKNER - Symphony No. 9

Description:

Is Bruckner's Ninth really incomplete, or did the Austrian composer believe deep down inside that its three movements were enough? Even without a finale--he sketched one but never completed it--the Ninth is one of the most gigantic symphonies in history. The luminous slow movement with which it ends makes a statement so eloquent and complete that it's hard to imagine how the composer could have topped it with a finale. Acclaimed Brucknerian Jaap van Zweden, a former concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra who became music director of the Dallas Symphony in 2008, plumbs its depths, while veteran Horacio GutiƩrrez balances the evening with Mozart's sunny F-major Piano Concerto from 1784.
