In March, the touring production of MY FAIR LADY comes to Philadelphia as part of the Cadillac Broadway Series. In September, I went to Cincinnati on an advance trip to see the show and learn more about it. Let me tell you that this is MY FAIR LADY like you have never seen it before. (Don't we all have a link to this show somehow? In high school, I played first clarinet for my local community production.) It's MY FAIR LADY - forgive the Spinal Tap reference - "turned up to 11". From the costumes to the sets, to the re-imagined choreography by Matthew Bourne (MARY POPPINS, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) this is a stage production that CANNOT be missed.
Our Eliza (Lisa O'Hare) and Henry Higgins (Christopher Cazanove) are direct from London and are quite a treat, as is Tim Jerome as Alfred P. Doolittle. Also joining us is Marni Nixon as Mrs. Higgins. Ms. Nixon has quite a history with MY FAIR LADY having played Eliza before, but also singing for Audrey Hepburn in the screen version.
NPR recently interviewed both Sally Ann Howes (who finished her run as Mrs. Higgins this past weekend in Washington, DC) and Ms. Nixon as she begins the run.
Join us this March at the Academy of Music as the Cadillac Broadway Series presents, Lerner & Loewe's MY FAIR LADY. Click here for tickets.
On a scale of 1-10 this was a 15.Thanks to all who signed my Play Bill at the stage door.Yes "Mr.Doolittle" is a trip both on the stage and in person.Special thanks to the person who brought Marnie Nixon out for the three of us to meet and talk with her.She is one special Lady and I'll remember this meeting. Also as a member I have a suggestion. We had 40 minuets to spare before the Sunday 1PM show.We did our own tour of the Grand Old Lady of Locust Street. We got up and personal with the Atlas statues holding up the sky.The Zodiak is impressive even with my fear of heights. From 2nd and 3rd balcony views you get a real feeling for this theater. The magnitude simply overtakes you.Perhaps can the Kimmel arrange tours of the Academy? I'm sure many of us would jump at the chance to have this tour. The Merriam and the Union Leaque did this a few years ago.City Hall provides visits to Billy Penn on a regular basis. Thanks John Heaton
