The folk ensemble Mazowsze make their Kimmel Center debut this afternoon. The group was formed by composer and folk music lover Tadeusz Sygietynski and his wife, Polish actress Mira Ziminska-Sygietynska. During WWII, the couple promised each other that if they survived, they would start a folklore group. In post-war Poland, they scoured the countryside for traditional costumes and music. In 1948, the group began rehearsing, and after two years had their first performance, and by 1951, Mazowsze was already touring outside Poland. Here's a clip from the group's public television special.
