Kimmel Center Presents Fresh Ink Goes Hi-Tech With New Podcast Series

Posted at September 26, 2007 09:30 AM in Fresh Ink , General .

This month Kimmel Center Presents takes a bold step toward the world of new media with the re-launch of its Kimmelcast! Podcasts.

Ethel06b_(c)SteveSherman.jpgKimmel Center Presents’ Fresh Ink Series begins the season on October 13 with a performance by the string quartet Ethel, described by The Guardian as “the fiercest string quartet this side of hell.” Listen in as Kimmel Center Director of Programming Tom Warner engages the quartet’s Mary Rowell in a conversation about who they are and why the do what they do, complete with musical samples. This is not your grandfather’s Schubert string quartet!

Listen here to this first podcast or subscribe to the entire series on iTunes, including a conversation with members of Sō Percussion in January 2008 and composer Phil Kline in March 2008.

I booked studio time at the legendary WNYC-FM in New York City through some friends there for 5 hours on Saturday, August 4 from 8pm to 1am. I hired a terrific producer/engineer, Jennifer Munson, from On the Media and abc news, drafted all the structural components of the script: intros, wraps, outros, credits, set ups, gathered the music, etc, and Tom crafted all the conversation and interview questions. Five hours later we had some terrific conversation and thoughts from each of the performers with Tom Warner, as well as a roundtable conversation.

Not only will this series of conversation be released as a series of podcasts both here and on Itunes, but it is also available for free on CD:
