Leon Fleisher has been a pianist, conductor and teacher, and he has already retired once from performing when, at age 37, he lost the use of two fingers on his right hand due to focal dystonia. Recently, Fleisher began treatments to relieve that affliction, and he regained the use of his hand. He has been playing with both hands again for several years, and the documentary about his recovery and subsequent career was nominated for an Academy Award this year.
