Last night, Edward Scissorhands opened at the Academy of Music. Choreographed by Matthew Bourne, the production is inspired by the Tim Burton film of the same name and draws many themes from Danny Elfman's original score. With seven pounds of steel on each hand, Sam Archer dances the title role. If you see the show this week or you've seen it in another city, please let us know what you thought of the performance. There's lots of video available here if you either couldn't make it to the show, or you'd like to see some of it again.

It was really interesting to see how they adapted this for the stage. And into a ballet, no less!
The sets were really cute. It was cool that they used 2 huge "mirrors" on the upstage wings to reflect the upstage backdrop so that they didn't have to change the sides whenever they changed the scene.
The dancing was good. Some parts were very goofy and looked like they were just put in there to make the audience laugh.
The cast was great and looked like they were having a lot of fun.
All in all, a good show.
A beautiful production.
As a huge Tim Burton fan, I was unsure as to how this would translate to the stage, esp. in a dance piece! Turns out- amazingly well. The emotions that are so important to the movie and story, translate easily into dance and movement, and I found myself telling the story in my head and heart with no words. Truly a new/well-blended, cohesive experience in the world of dance, and the world of theatre - I was pleasantly surprised.
The ice sculpture scene/dance is just as, if not more, beautiful expressed through dance instead of words.
So happy as an employee of Kimmel Center that we are bringing pieces like this to the city of Philadelphia!
