Not all together of course...
On Tuesday, September 26th, I got to attend the Lang Lang/ Philadelphia Orchestra concert in Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center. My friend, Timothy, and I had great seats in the 1st tier, dead center! It was our first time seeing the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Lang Lang came out and did the 1st piece "CHOPIN Piano Concerto No. 1". It was about 50 minutes long. He was great! After the 1st movement, they had to let all the latecomers into their seats. Right after the Orchestra cut off, there was a barrage of coughs, and throats clearing from the audience.
The 2nd piece was just with the Orchestra. It was heavenly. I hadn’t heard a full orchestra in a few years. The most I was exposed to were high school and middle school orchestras, and trust me, it was not pretty… The string section was amazing! The person I paid attention to most was the female percussionist. (I have to support my fellow female percussionists. XD ) She played the timpani for the first piece and played the xylophone, bells, and bass drum for the second. She rocked it! I wish my school had a full orchestra.
Between the 1st and 2nd movement in the 2nd piece, one guy started clapping VERY enthusiastically. It was one of those "why aren't you all clapping? That was so good! Come on people! CLAP!". Finally, someone stopped him. the entire audience laughed. As did Tim and I. :)
Poor guy.
I hope to see more concerts at the Kimmel! Student rush is only $6! That’s less than what my friends pay for take-out!
Moving on to 12 Angry Men.
On Wednesday morning, September 27th, the University of the Arts hosted a “Broad Topic” talk back session with Norm and John-Boy (George Went and Richard Thomas) at the Merriam Theatre. I was supposed to run the light board, and my friend Jesse was supposed to run the light board, but the equipment belonged to the touring company. So the IATSE guys took our job.
During “Broad Topic”, I sat in the light booth at the back of the house with the lighting engineer and talked about touring. He’s such a great guy! He gave me a lot of useful advice about being on the road.
That night, Jesse and I got to shadow the light and sound guys. Jesse was in the house with Tim, the sound engineer. I got a headset and listened to the SM call the light cues. I had such a great time! I’m going back on Saturday to shadow the SM and ASM for the evening performance.
On Sunday, I will be attending the closing performance of “I Can’t Stop Lovin’ You”. I’ll post another blog soon!.
