The last concert in our One Nation under Jazz series focuses on Boston's jazz heritage. Roy Haynes, known as the "Father of Modern Jazz Drumming" is a Boston-born jazz innovator with strong ties to the scene, both as a musician and as an educator. Along with pianist Danilo Pérez--also Artistic Advisor for the series--Haynes will show why Boston has one of the most vital, competitive, and experimental jazz scenes happening in the U.S. And, just look at Haynes? Can you believe this man is his in eighties? May we all be as cool at that age.
What did you think of the show?

I've been a Roy Haynes fanatic since I first started learning about jazz in the early '70's. I first met Roy in 1979 at an Oliver Jackson concert in Garden City, NY, at the Ethical Humanist Society. Roy sat next to me in the audience, and I've never known a more approachable genius and probably never will. He is the most incredible person and drummer, of course. He touched my life so deeply, I'm getting tears in my eyes right now and wishing I could see him again. I love you, Roy! Irene
