I wish I'd linked to this in the Thomas Hampson performance post, but the Library of Congress has so much interesting information on their website, I didn't want it to get lost. There are sound clips of a few of the songs featured in Hampson's program as well as information about the Library's own collection of American song material. There are links to the performing arts reading room, a database of films about jazz, and selections of Civil War Sheet music.
