Watch out. Ladies with talent are on the scene and flooding the air waves and print pubs with well deserved publicity (rather than their scantily clad peers). Case in point the young percussionist known as Suphala just did a fascinating interview on NPR describing the technique she uses to make the tabla (her percussion pref)"speak" in many languages. Suphala is no joke. She studied with Ravi Shankar's main man and tabla player, the late Usted Allar, and has toured with Porno for Pyros.
On the total opposite end of the rhythmic musical spectrum, PW just featured up-and-coming 22-year-old rap artist and Germantown nativeAmanda Blank. The girl is crass, bold, and although self admittedly scantily clad sometimes, she really can rap. AND has the cred to prove it.
In honor of all of the genuinely talented performing ladies out there, I ask all of you faithful readers to start a list on this post of those woman who truly deserve a mention.
Happy posting!
