Grammy Nominations

Most of the articles you'll read about today's Grammy nominations will talk about Mariah Carey, Green Day, Gwen Stefani and Kanye West. The nomination list, however, is enormous. All kinds of music—world, classical, folk, latin, blues—are nominated. Just reading down the list, I recognize dozens of performers who've performed at the Kimmel Center, or will in the next year.

The nomination list is interestesting reading aside from that. I had no idea Herbie Hancock collaborated with Trey Anastasio. Or if Willie Nelson should receive a Grammy for recording the Dukes of Hazzard song. Not that he doesn't deserve an award, but he probably wants to forget about his involvement at this point. And, I didn't even know that Grammys were awarded to audio books and music videos.

When I see lists like this one, it makes me think again about finding another form of radio so I didn't have "Hollaback Girl" stuck in my head, but I could listen to all kinds of music and spoken word. There's so much out there in the world, and I know not all of it is good, but I'd like to have the chance to decide for myself.
