The Big Decision

Posted at November 8, 2005 10:53 AM in General .

Working among many professionals such as myself who come from performing or visual art backgrounds or educations, the question of art as a passion or a career comes up quite often. For most of us there came a time when a decision was made to focus on our mission to support the arts or be the artist. For others there is the constant struggle to do both and put off the decision until it's made for us.

In this chaotic and over-productive technological world we live in today, is it still possible to have a career AND fullfill the insatiable need to statisfy your passion? Or is it sadly one or the other? Or is it happily one or the other?
How did you come to the decision of your involvement with the arts? How did you come to the decision to be the artist or work behind the scenes?

I've chosen to try to do both. I find it cathartic to jump to one when the other gets me down. It keeps me focused and provides great perspective when I become too single-minded.
