A few of long-standing musical truisms were confirmed for me last night:
1) If you play a guitar, you are much cooler than if you do not (I, by the way, do not).
2) If you play the guitar in an all-black outfit, you are even cooler.
3) It is very hard to look cool while playing an accordion.
4) The harp is an amazing, underutlized instrument.
5) People are suckers for a good drum solo.
6) The acoustincs in Verizon Hall are awesome.
7) Stevie Wonder knew what he was doing when he sang in Portugese. It is the MOST beautiful
language when sung (or when spoken, for that matter).
8) A light show which flashes between various guitarists who are NOT playing their guitars is confusing.
9) Fado is amazing.
10) I wish I played guitar.
Edmar Castaneda was the harpist in Lila Downs' band last night ... he has a trio of his own in NYC and gigs around quite a bit.. his website is www.edmarcastaneda.com
He was absolutely incredible. Any chance of getting his trio at the Kimmel?
