During my time here at the Kimmel Center (where one of my responsibilities is to teach music to tri-state area students) I have been having conversations with many people from all walks of life regarding music; what kind, when and how it used. I've decided to start logging/categorizing some of music's uses in peoples lives.
In keeping in step with the beginning of the school year, the first use that I will investigate is "Music To Study By". If you are in school (grade school, college, continuing education etc.) or just love to study whatever, then this for you. If you would, kindly let me know the following:
• What kind of music do you listen to when you study?
•When/ how often do you study? (During the day? Night? Every day? Only on Tuesdays?, etc.)
•How do you use the music? (To help you concentrate? To create an atmosphere of total isolation? To pump you up, etc.)
I will be keeping a log of all your responses and sharing them with the many students that I come in contact with during the course of the school year. Feel free to have your friends/associates respond to this inquiry as well. The more the merrier!
Until next time, musically I am,
Marc D.J.
• What kind of music do you listen to when you study? classical
• When / how often do you study? during the night
• How do you use the music? to create a comfortable atmosphere --> to help concentrate
well i do most of my studying in a coffeehouse now w/hip music. starbucks is OK in pinch but i much prefer the Green Mile cafe in West Philly.
The funny thing is if I'm studying @ home or @ the library I need absolute silence... but boredom creeps in. maybe it's the combination of good music and the bustle of people, but it makes for a perfect study environment..
