Coffee on the monitor

.. not all that unusual for a Monday morning, I suppose, more on that later..

but first, do you really need ANOTHER reason to love Philadelphia? OK, ok ..

Exhibit A: The latest signing to Def Jam calls illadelph their home. After dropping Geffen like a two-ton turntable, the legendary Roots crew might finally have that major label support they've so richly deserved all these years. Catch them tonight on the VH1 Hip Hop Awards... and someone please hand LL a towel, willya?

and now, for the coffee-spitting moment of the week...

While reading through the ArtsJournal blog this weekend, I happened upon this NYT piece about a panel at Julliard featuring, among others, Stephen Sondheim and Justice Antonin Scalia.

They were discussing certain controversial government-funded programs that we all hold dear .. programs which are vital to the well-being of our communities and our culture - programs which would likely fall apart without sustained and substantial public funding.

I'm referring, of course, to the military - and for once I agree with Big Tony - we simply have to to draw the line somewhere, and denying the funds for some wars is simply unavoidable, because as you know "choices must be made".

He goes on to share some interesting opinions on "minority" representation in the performing ats, which I will not reprint here.. feel free to discuss though..

what was that bumper sticker?

"It'll be a great day when libraries get all the funding they need, and the Air Force needs to hold a bake sale for a new Bomber.."
